in a non–competitive, relaxing camp environment in the beautiful Catskills mountains
For over a decade Frets & Refrains, and the Thompson Family has been welcoming a wide range of songwriters, singers and guitar players of all ages and ability to one of the most beautiful spots you could hope to retreat to for a week of learning. As well as absorbing knowledge from an ever changing roster of some of the most talented and revered musicians on the planet, an incredible community has also blossomed with lifetime friendships and musical partnerships who have Frets and Refrains to thank.
Over a week ensconced in the beautiful nature of the Catskills mountains you will be treated to a packed schedule of seminars, interactive classes, guest appearances, concerts, open mics all while mingling with your teachers over delicious catered meals.
When we first started Frets and Refrains we didn’t know what to expect. 14 years later it’s one of the highlights of our year and we are always so excited to be surrounded by friends and the inspiration the week brings.

Dear Frets & Refrains community and newcomers,
Welcome to the thirteenth year of our acoustic guitar and songwriting camp! From our first camp, we thought we had found the perfect location and the best teachers, and the fact F&R is still thriving, and attendees keep returning, suggests we hit a successful formula in year one, and our refinements and improvements over the years are keeping the camp educational, nurturing, innovative and enjoyable.
We are thrilled to welcome to the teaching staff this year singer/songwriter Mary Gauthier, and singer/guitarist Rory Block, in addition to our regular team of Adam Traum, Sloan Wainwright, Simon Tassano, Annaliese Tassano – and the Thompson Family, Teddy, Zak, Jack and Yours Truly.
This is one of the highlights of my year, and I can’t tell you how excited I am to be a part of it!
